Country fair Sarntal

For some people it heralds the end of the summer, for others it is the highlight of the season or even the most beautiful country fair of the world, quasi an important public holiday. Fact is: The country fair in Sarntal is a unique event that inspires locals as well as tourists. In 2024, it takes place from 31st August to 2nd September.

The festival starts on Saturday in the late afternoon with the marching in of the band and the opening concert on the fairground. After this there is scheduled a torchlight procession in the centre of Sarnthein and a dancing party with jaunty music.

The so-called "Guardian Angel Sunnday" begins with a Mass, a procession to the chapel St. Zyprian and the following morning pint. The undisputable highlight of the day is the big parade at 2:00 pm with trumpet horns, bands coming from all over the region, countless good-looking gals and fellows wearing traditional costumes, moreover colourful parade floats and folk dance groups.

Altogether, the country fair Sarntal is a meeting point for all those who love South Tyrolean costumes and traditions. Meat, drink and best entertainment is ensured all day long – and till late evening hours.

But this is not all. On Monday, other people start in a normal work week, but the country fair in Sarntal calls last orders: with a large farmers’ market starting at 7:00 am and offering local and regional quality products.
