Homecoming of livestock in Ridnaun

At the end of the summer the farmers in Ridnaun (and in many other South Tyrolean villages) get back their cows, calves and sheep from the alpine pastures and give them and their pastors a warm welcome.
In Ridnaun in Eisacktal the return of livestock and the festival of farmers and alpine dairymen take place on 28th September 2024. Numerous sheep and cows, partly lavishly decorated with flowers, wreaths and bells, come back from their summer holiday in the mountains, in order to spend the winter in their stables.
As usual, numerous spectators will expect their arrival in the streets of Maiern-Ridnaun. In general, however, people not only come to admire the decorated cows and to greet their companions, but to enjoy also the traditional specialities and the entertainment program: Because no homecoming of livestock in South Tyrol goes without delicacies of the farmer’s cuisine, proper music and good company.
